New distribution: Ubuntu Server 13.10 "Saucy Salamander"

10-18-2013, 08:54 AM

Ubuntu has just announced the release of Ubuntu 13.10 "Saucy Salamander".

And as usual, the distributions team has pulled out all the stops to offer it as soon as possible, and so it's already available upon re-installation for dedicated servers!

As always, it's a basic installation with only the services for SSH and DNS preinstalled. Given that the number of installations of new distributions in 32-bit is now zero, we are only offering it in 64-bit.

The latest features added to the installation system, such as the choice of kernel, have been integrated and will be present in the majority of future distributions.

With this version, Ubuntu integrates the last version of OpenStack, called Havana, which was also announced today. Since 13.04, Ubuntu has changed the duration of support from 18 to 9 months, so the 13.10 "End of Life" will be next July. For production and projects of long duration, we thus recommend you to use an Ubuntu version with Long Term Support (LTS), such as 12.04 "Precise Pangolin".

The new Ubuntu is currently in BETA, please don't hesitate to leave us your comments here in the forum.

Best regards,
