New feature: Kernel choice

03-19-2013, 02:45 PM

you can now choose to install Linux with the original kernel of the distribution or the kernel compiled by OVH for dedicated servers.

This feature is targeted towards professional Linux users wishing to install the original kernel of their distribution of choice and are aware of the consequences of using the original distributions kernel:
They are modular and require initrd/initramfs as well as the grub configuration that goes with this
They are not compatible with OVH netboot. If netboot is chosen as an option, you will not have the same configuration as though the server had booted from the hard disk.
Some distributions update kernels very regularly for various reasons - we cannot ensure they work for everyone as we can with the OVH kernel.

For now we've only enabled this option for Debian 7 "Wheezy" (Alpha), but we will extend this to other distributions after we've verified it is okay and have had feedback from users (you!)
