09-07-2012, 12:07 PM

yesterday afternoon, the project team has finally announced the OpenSUSE
availability of the latest OpenSUSE 12.2 with the code name "Mantis".

Since noon it is available in 64 bit for reinstallation for
all dedicated server ranges via the Manager, it will also
available to order on new servers shortly.

This version brings several new features for this historic distribution:
- grub2
- the days are counted for Sysvinit, systemd (V44) takes over
- /run instead of /var/run
- migration /bin/, /sbin/ and /lib/ to /usr/{bin,sbin,lib} have
** begun and will continue in future versions

As always, it is a basic setup with only
SSH and DNS services preinstalled.
For information, the versions of the most popular softwares are very
recent: OpenSSH 6.0, PHP 5.3, Apache 2.2.22, MySQL 5.5,
Java 1.7 (OpenJDK), gcc 4.7.1, bind 9.9, ...
